Alison Minett
Loeys-Dietz
Meet Alison Minett from the South of England. Alison recently received an aortic valve replacement that changed the course of her life. Alison was diagnosed with Loeys-Dietz syndrome last year, after receiving treatment for an aortic aneurysm and taking an exceptionally long time to recover. The Loeys-Dietz diagnosis came as a relief to Alison and her family as it explained why she was not recovering properly and provided obvious next steps for her that were previously unclear. In her interview, Alison is joined by her husband Tim, who shared that Alison’s surgery was a worrying time for the whole family.
“We have 5 children between us, and it definitely wasn’t the easiest of times. With our son doing his A Levels and another at university we didn’t want to scare anyone and just wanted everyone to be ok.”

Now with the right medication and support from her family and friends, Alison is finally adjusting to her “new normal” way of life. Although she has had to make changes including early retirement, driving less and accepting assistance from others, Alison prefers to focus on the things she can do, rather than what she can’t.
“I’m really fortunate to still be alive… And actually it’s made the family a lot closer, which I think is a real benefit.”
